HELP! I’m at a hotel and I’m using their WIFI but I cannot browse. It has to be a setting issue on my laptop because it worked fine when I was home in the morning. It says I’m on a metered connection and I have no Ethernet connection. I’m 65 with stage-four cancer. This was supposed to be my happy “last hoorah,” but I want to be able to browse on my laptop. Please help. Thank you so much!

Hi @Lauramm58,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot your browsing issue on hotel Wi-Fi.

Forget the Network:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  • Click on the hotel network and select Forget. Then reconnect and enter the password again.

Check Network Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  • Click on Network troubleshooter to see if Windows can identify the issue.

Disable Metered Connection:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  • Click on the hotel network, scroll down, and toggle off Set as metered connection if it’s enabled.

Check Proxy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
  • Make sure that Automatically detect settings is turned on and that manual proxy settings are off unless you need them.

Flush DNS Cache:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for "cmd", right-click, and select Run as administrator).
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter. This clears the DNS cache.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
  • Scroll down and select Network reset. This will remove and reinstall all network adapters and reset other networking components.

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Make sure that your firewall or antivirus software isn’t blocking the connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
