Reading some posts about the Whitelist, I am wondering if I can successfully update my wifi card to a WIFI 6 module.?

The manual only mentions the following 2 modules:

Intel 9260 ac 2×2 + Bluetooth 5 M.2 2230 non-vPro PCI-e+USB world-wide
Intel D1 7265 ac 2×2 + Bluetooth 4.2 M.2 non-vPro PCI-e+USB world-wid

If it is whitelisted does HP offer any upgrades?

Why does a whitelist exist?

Thanks for the help.

Hi:

What model wifi adapter does your notebook currently have installed?

My WIFI card is a Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9260 160MHz driver 21.110.1.1

HP does not provide any information regarding what notebooks have BIOS whitelists.

This is what I have learned over the years regarding that issue...

All HP notebooks made in 2011 and earlier have BIOS whitelists.

Most (say 90%) made in 2012 have BIOS whitelists.

50 - 50 for those made in 2013

Probably around 80% made in 2014 and later do not have the whitelists.

The only way we find out what model wifi adapters work in different model series is when someone tries to upgrade the wifi card and reports success or failure.

I could not find any posts regarding anyone upgrading the wifi card in your notebook's model series.

Probably because either of the offered cards provide excellent throughput.

For example:  I have the Intel 9260 AC in one of my PC's, and since I am only paying for a 200 MBPS download service, and I don't move large amounts of files across my home network, there would be no reason for me to upgrade the card--especially considering how thin and delicate the antenna wires are in the notebooks with M.2 wifi adapters.

With that being written all you can do would be to experiment and see what happens.

This would be the card I recommend you try...

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # L35282-005

You can find this model wifi adapter on eBay.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi adapter.

If you decide to take the gamble, please post back and let us know the results.

You would have to ask HP why they use BIOS whitelists on some notebooks and not on others, because it makes no sense to me.

Now if they all had whitelists, then this would be the most likely reason...FCC SAR testing requirements.
