Notebook 15 r078tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been using the Notebook 15 r078tu since 2014 and had it upgraded to Windows 10, 64 bit and has been working alright. Now my wifi router has been changed to a dual band (2.4/5 ghz) router from Jio gigafiber. I am not able to use the 5 ghz as the existing adapter is single band only. Please suggest suitable wifi 2 band adapters for the notebook which can easily replace the existing one and if I can do it by myself.

Hi:

You should be able to upgrade to one of these two Broadcom wifi/Bluetooth adapters...

Dual band AC:

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo     HP part # 724935-001

Dual band N:

Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2×2 Wi-Fi Adapter, Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter    HP part # 730668-001

You should be able to find either card on Amazon or eBay.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi adapter.

Before ordering a replacement wifi adapter, open up the notebook and confirm that there are two antenna cables connected to the Ralink wifi adapter in there now.   A dual band wifi adapter needs to have two antenna cables connected to it in order to work properly.

Here is the service manual for your notebook, where you can find the wifi adapter removal and replacement procedure.
