I'm not sure what's going on here but my computer lacks any bluetooth function. My family has the same laptop and they have no problems with their bluetooth.
My problem: device manager lists no bluetooth radio, just the dual-band wireless (which from what I understand is combined with bluetooth 4.2 according to product specifications https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c04936028#AbT6 ).
I have tried:
Running every possible version of the "detect hardware" or detect hardware problems via Windows, Intel and HP programs -- no results.
Installing the windows 7 bluetooth drivers from HP; successful install--no results.
Updated the Intel drivers (from Intel site) of both the Wireless and Bluetooth adapter -- still nothing.
After each driver updated I've optimistically tried the "add device" windows function and attempted to sync 3 different brand bluetooth headphones, 1 bluetooth speaker, and 1 phone. -- none were detected.
So what's left to do? I'm becoming really frustrated by this.

Hi:
Does your notebook have the HP Connection Manager software installed?
If so, you probably need to turn on the bluetooth using the software.
If not, install it, restart the PC and use the software to turn on the bluetooth radio.
This package provides the HP Connection Manager for supported notebook models running a supported operating system.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75771.exe
Once you turn on the BT, you can uninstall the HP connection manager software.
Definitely uninstall the connection manager software with the bluetooth turned on before upgrading to W10, should you decide to do so.
