I was looking to update my Network Adapter in my laptop, to one that supports dual-band,  as I have 5ghz connection at home. Is it possible? Which ones are recommended? Would a USB dual-band adapter be a better option?

thank you

Your machine was built around Q1/2013. This series supports the following wifi cards

  • Atheros 9485GN 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and 3012 Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter part # 655795-001
  • Atheros WB225 802.11b/g/n 1×1 Bluetooth Combo Adapter part # 675794-001
  • Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and 20702 Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter part # 657325-001
  • Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module part # 670691-001
  • Mediatek MT7630E 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter and Mediatek Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter part # 710418-001
  • Ralink RT5390R 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi Adapter part # 691415-001
  • Ralink RT3290LE 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter part # 690020-001
  • Atheros AR9565 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter for use only on computer models equipped with an Intel processor part # 690019-001
  • Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WLAN module for use only on computer models equipped with an Intel processor in Japan part # 670290-001

The Centrino Advanced-N 6235 and Centrino Advanced-N 6230 support dual band (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz) but very hard to find the right part now.

If you wish, please try online stores and/or eBay. Otherwise, USB AC adapter would be a right choice

Hi, @Santi_Canteros

You can install this wifi card in your model since it does not have a BIOS whitelist...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0                HP Part #710661-001

The card is readily available on Amazon or eBay.

Do your search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.
