When I got to Networks and Sharing, and then I click on change adapter settings, the only thing that shows up is Ethernet..... There is nothing about wireless anywhere.  It's like it has completely disappeared off my laptop.... Help?

Yeah.... this is STILL a problem. Have an HP G6-2332SA just over 12 months old, Windows 8.1 installs lovely, but right after the Wi-Fi is USELESS because the F12 key needed to activate the Wireless is now the WIndows 8.1 flight mode on/off toggle. Either HP or Microshaft have to do something about this. This laptop is now useless as the WiFi is trashed.

There is no way to disable the F12 key within Windows 8.1 and no way to turn the Wi-Fi on without it. Nicely done. I now have a £300 paperweight - Going back to PC World as not fit for purpose. Will NEVER buy an HP again.

With 8.1 update being forced upon those of us that do not want Windows 8, feel like I've been Microshafted yet again!

Nicely played. Going to buy a Packard Bell now, my last one lasted 7 years before I had to change it - last HP DV6 - 7 WEEKS!

Come on HP! Are you going to answer your customers on your forum, or are you just another America multinational that's only interested in paying dividends to its shareholders and does not give a **bleep** about the customers buying their products.
A wifi card that does not work out if the box? What are you playing at? Pathetic will never purchase HP for my business again ever!

Hi @MadLensman

       @PeterSnr

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

As a follow up.....
1. My laptop is a HP Envy m6
2. I run Ubuntu 14.10 LTS

I can get the wireless card to work using this workaround.
1. Log in
2. After log in close the laptop lid so Ubuntu goes to suspend.
3. Open the lid to wake from suspend and the wireless card miraculously starts working.

Quite a 'Heath Robinson' way to get hardware working and not what you would expect from HP.

The Ubuntu forum contains lots of posts regarding this card and airplane mode but no real solution to the problem.

Hi @PeterSnr

Thank you for your input.

HP does not support Ubuntu as an Operating System.    You could try the Ubuntu support  for assistance to overcome this difficulty.

I too have this issue!!! What causes it?

This did not fix my issue. I had to prevent an update to my wi-fi (Intel Centrino) It was only after a friend suggested that I roll back the automatice update that my wi-fi became stable. Now I require all updates to get my my approval and I deselect that particular update.

I seem to be having the same problem after Windows 10!  Wifi blocked by airplane mode error and button will not turn white when airplane mode off... Stays white.
