HP EliteBook 840 G2 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good evening all,

Over the past few weeks, I have had repeated issues with my Wi-Fi connection from my laptop, and I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me figure out a solution.

I have a HP EliteBook 840 G2, and the Wi-Fi card is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265. Recently, there have been several occasions where my laptop is telling me there are no wireless networks available, despite the fact that my Wi-Fi is working fine. I have tried various fixes to resolve this problem - doing a network reset, uninstalling and reinstalling the Wi-Fi driver, resetting the BIOS, doing a "hard reset" of my laptop, but the issue keeps reoccurring and the fixes I've mentioned don't always resolve the issue (it seems to be a case of trial and error getting the problem resolved). I have noticed a couple of other issues with my laptop that seem to occur when the Wi-Fi isn't working - sometimes my touchpad will stop working (or start being slow), and I've also experienced the BSOD several times too (normally with a BUGCODE_NDIS_DRIVER error).

Any suggestions for a fix I haven't tried yet? I'm concerned my laptop might be on its last legs (I've had it for almost nine years to be fair... it's had a good run!)

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to update the Wi-Fi driver to the latest version from the Intel website.

Windows® 10 and Windows 11* Wi-Fi Drivers for Intel® Wireless Adapters

It should install driver version 19.51.50.2.

I have a HP desktop and a HP notebook with the Intel 7265AC and haven't had any issues at all on either PC.

Hi Paul, thanks for your suggestion. I have downloaded the updated driver, but I am unable to install it - when I try to run the exe file as an administrator, I get an error message which says "The software package cannot be installed on your system". I have tried following the steps for a Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers but it still doesn't seem to work. Any idea what the issue might be?

You're very welcome.

See if this works...

Download the W10 64 bit Wi-Fi driver zip file from the link below.

Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for IT Admins

Unzip the file to its folder.

Go to the device manager.

Click on the Intel 7265 Wi-Fi adapter.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the Intel Wi-Fi driver folder that you unzipped.

Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

That didn't work either, unfortunately. I selected the relevant folder and sub-folders, and it said "Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed". So I'm still on an older driver version (18.33.11.2).

I might have to query it with Intel, see if there's anything they can suggest...

Sorry that didn't work either.

I guess you will have to post the problem on the Intel support forum and see if someone there can help, because I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.
