Microsoft Windows 11

Every website that I try opening gives me an error message saying “you’re not connected.” The problem with that, is that my laptop is saying I am connected. I tried turning my wifi on/off and it says “connected, secured.” I even went to the get help area and it says “good news—you’re connected.” I tried restarting my laptop and the network adaptor, and I’m still having this issue. Tutorials aren’t really helpful because I can’t find anyone having the same problem as me.

Hi @Addyson

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue where your laptop says it's connected to Wi-Fi, but websites still aren’t loading. This can be caused by a variety of factors. Let's go through a few more steps to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the issue:

May I know if the laptop is connected to wifi? May I know is there any onther device which is connected to the same wifi?

1. Flush DNS Cache

Sometimes, issues with your DNS (Domain Name System) settings can cause this problem. Flushing the DNS cache can help resolve any conflicts or outdated data.

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
  • Type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open the Command Prompt as administrator.
  • Type the following command and press Enter: ipconfig /flushdns
  • Once it’s done, restart your browser and try again.

2. Check Proxy Settings

Sometimes, a proxy setting on your computer can interfere with internet access, even if you're connected to Wi-Fi.

  • Open Settings on your laptop.
  • Go to Network & Internet > Proxy.
  • Make sure that the Use a proxy server setting is off unless you are intentionally using one for a specific reason.

3. Check Network Adapter Settings

The network adapter may need to be reset or updated:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand the Network adapters section.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and choose Update driver.
  • You can also choose Disable and then Enable the adapter to reset it.

I hope this helps.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
