I bought this 17-by1022cl HP Notebook two years ago. It worked flawlessly and had no software or hardware issues.
The hinges on the lid broke causing the case to separate so I returned it to be repaired under warranty.
Instead of repairing it, HP replaced it with a very used and defective system. The replacement had no WiFi functionality at all.
I returned it only to get another replacement that was even more used with worn lettering on the keycaps, a different appearance, and a new network problem.
This 3rd unit just turns the WiFi off randomly. Sometimes 3-4 times a day or it may run a day or two. Whatever, you must restart the notebook to get networking functioning again. A real pain as I need to save all my work and shut down everything I'm working on.
The Device Manager says there are multiple hardware problems and says, Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
Of course, now the notebook is out of warranty so, is there any fix for this before I toss this thing onto my HP trash pile of broken printers and other PCs?

Hi@BillTheCatz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing Wi-Fi issues with the HP Notebook turns off randomly.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to latest BIOS from HP.COM or you can download it on to a USB drive and from another PC and then install it on this Laptop and check it.
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.
  • You can do Reset PC Keep my files from windows and check if it works.
  • Try uninstall and reinstall the network adapters from device manager.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This didn't resolve anything, it just wasted my time, as usual.

This response would imply that HP is just shipping returned junk to customers without updating the BIOS and drivers.  That was pretty much the content of my first message.
