Pavilion DV6 6000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After replacing my screen on my Pavilion DV6 notebook my WiFi is turned off when I boot Windows 10. The diagnostic on the wireless adapter says it’s working fine. The WiFi function key toggles Airplane mode now. The WiFi will not turn on using the Windows 10 software buttons either. I have tried using device manager to remove the wireless adapter and keyboard drivers then rebooting and nothing changed. I then found an article that suggested powering down, removing the battery, holding the power button for 20 seconds then replacing the battery and rebooting. This did not work either. What else can I do to resolve this problem?

Hi @CousinJohn

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the connectivity issue.

Appreciate you trying the steps. Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Network Troubleshooter -

1) In the search box, type and open "Troubleshooter".

2) Click on "Network and Internet".

3) Click on "Internet Connections".

Step 2 Run Network commands -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.

2) At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

Step 3 Re-install the Network Adapter -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.

2) In Device Manager, select Network adapters > the network adapter name.

3) Right-click on the network adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

Try re-installing the Wi-Fi card to see if that resolves the issue. Please refer to page# 67 from the Service Manual for the instructions.

If the issue still persists, try these steps - HP PCs - Wireless Network and Internet Troubleshooting

Thank you. I tried you suggestions but was unable to get my WiFi to turn on. I came across an article referencing a WiFi problem after installing Windows 10. The solution was to enable the WiFi adapter in the bios. My bios did not have that option so I reloaded the latest bios version. This allowed me to turn my WiFi adapter on with the software button in Windows 10.  My WiFi function key (F10) still toggles Airplane mode.

Thanks again.
