Dear reader,
Since I re-opened my laptop last sunday I am busy trying tot make my WiFi work again.
I figured out that it stopped working after the Windows (10) update on last friday, 30-6-2017.
In the eventviews are a lót of 'warnings' in "System": Event source NDIS, EventID 10400.
In Device Manager 3 'Network-adapters' are not 'enabled', they are 'light-blue' instead of 'bright-blue' (after enabling "hidden devices") and the in the details it says the device is not connected to the laptop.
I have tried "System-restore" but get errorcode 0x80070091, so that's no option either.....
Tried to fix that by renaming folder "Apps" to "OLD", didn't work out for my WiFi......
Removed the update of 30-6-2017, didn't help.....
Desperate I removed the Ralink WiFi-adapter and hoped it would be detected en 're-installed' on start-up, but it didn't.
So now I'm completely out of WiFi-connections.....
Somebody any clue how to fix this?
Many thanks in advance (and sorry for my, maybe sometimes, wrong English..... :smileyembarrassed: )!

Hi @Dutchesss,
I reviewed the post comprehensively. You could do one of these things. You could either backup your files to an external hard drive or to the cloud and then reinstall windows back to factory settings to eliminate all hardware issues. You've done some brilliant troubleshooting and hats off to you for that.
If it still does not work, then please procure a USB wireless dongle and plug it to one of the USB ports of the computer. You could buy one online via Amazon or Ebay or procure one from a local store. It is very cost effective and economical. All you need to do is plug it to one of the USB ports of the computer and connect it to the router. IT is very simple and will connect instantly. This should do the trick for you.
It has been an absolute privilege to have worked with you and to share this platform with you.:) I thank you greatly for that. I hope this answers your question. Trust me I've done all I can to help here and I genuinely hope things work great for you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂 I hope the product works great and stays healthy for a long time.
Do take care, stay healthy, keep smiling big and do have a blessed year ahead. 🙂

Hi @Dutchesss,
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums. After reading your post I see that you require assistance regarding wireless connection issues after updating to Windows 10. It will be a delight to assist you here.:)Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try to update the Wi-Fi adapter driver from device manager?
For now please try these steps: It looks like a driver issue.
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> network adapters>then select the network adapter drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the network driver from this link: http://hp.care/2suF6Mx please install it in Windows 8 compatibility mode.
- Please check this Microsoft community link: http://hp.care/2su5aax on how to do it.
- If this does not work, please try to install the softpaq from this link: http://hp.care/2suKdfI which has resolved the issue for another customer and is an accepted HP solution authored by a forum expert.
These links are good for troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues.
- Link1: http://hp.care/2submiU HP PCs - Wi-Fi Not Working on HP Computer
- Link 2: Common fixes for wireless connectivity issue: http://hp.care/2sUotwi
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thanks for your reply and compliment(s) **blush** 😄
A short reply from me for here in Holland it is now 22:49 at night 😄
In answer to your question about updating the driver for the WiFi-adapter: after trying to do that from Device Manager it said there is no better driver 😞
On my search on the Internet I found a driver for the Ralink WiFi-adapter (by the 'name' that is used by Windows "PCI\blah,blah,blah......) but I'm not sure which one is for Windows 10 64 bit (I think it is the one with the most 'bites' hahaha).
This WiFi-problem didn't start after updating to Windows 10 (that happened without my knowledge 😞 ), but after the latest update here in Holland on June 30th, that is called in English "Creators update".
I will try your suggestions tomorrow and will keep you posted.
Kind regards 🙂

Hi DavidSMP,
Thanks
Despite my 'commendable technical skills' I stille have some questions, just to be sure I don't wreck up all the connections on my laptop:
- do I in the first step do this with ALL the networkadapters (f.e. the "Microsoft ISATAP adapter" and 8 x "WAN Miniport")?
- rightclicking doesn't show "Uninstall driver", but "Update drivers", "Shut down", "Uninstall", "Search for changed devices" and "Properties". Opening "Properties" shows amongst others the tab "Driver" and thére is the opportunity to choose "Remove driver".
Furtheron I don't get a "How to" when I click the link about how to install the Windows 8 drivers in compatibility mode. I only get the frontpage of my Dutch HP-support website where I have to post the serialnumber and so on. For there is no (more) support for my laptop (the model in combination with Windows 10 bought before 2013) I cannot get any download, advice, and so on......

Hi @Dutchesss,
I read the quick post. thanks for the reply. You've tried the steps with infinite patience and great persistence. Kudos to you for a job well done.
Now for the wifi mini adapters and the Microsoft adapter you could uninstall them once and restart the computer from device manager.
Don't check the box that says delete the software for this device for these 2 adapters.
If you found a Ralink driver that works, good for you. Please don't uninstall that. You then don't need to worry about installing any other driver in compatibility mode. The HP website will not show you how to install it in compatibility mode. It will direct you to install it after selecting the correct operating system.
The Microsoft website link from my previous post shows you how to install it in compatibility mode after downloading it from the HP website.
Now you don't need to do that as you said you found a Ralink wifi driver. If you are not sure, please try to install the Softpaq (Ralink drivers) from the other link in my previous post which has worked for another customer and has been posted by a forum expert.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Hi DavidSMP,
Unfortunately the installing of the Softpaq didn't do the trick
While unpacking it 'said' all the files were already on my laptop, I let it overwrite all of them (there could be a corrupt file, you never know....), rebooted, but..... no WiFi
In Devicemanager there are still 2 networkadapters that are not 'brightly' lit, but 'light'blue, as if they are not activated.
When I look at the Properties is says they are not connected or there is no connection with it (code 45). The same happened with my Mediatek Ralink RT390R networkadapter before I removed it
Before the Ralink adapter was removed the following happened: when I tapped F12 the orange light didn't turn blue and I could only turn on and off flightmode and nót turn ón WiFi-mode. There were also no other networkconnections to be found: when I clicked my internetconnection I only saw the cabled connection and flightmode-symbol, no other connection. That is still the status of het WiFi-situation.
Strangely I could print wireless, eventhough I could not RECEIVE anything by WiFi
After the Windows 'Creators' update there are, like I wrote in my first post, lóts of warnings in the Logbook (? literally translated from the Dutch word, you call it Eventviewer?) Source NDIS, ID 10400: "The network-interface Ralink RT5390R 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter started to reset. While resetting the hardware the internetconnection will be intermitted for a while. Reason: the network driver detected that its hardware has stopped responding to commands. This networkinterface has been reset for 16231 times since the last time it was initiated.".
This warning came every few seconds between last friday-evening and sunday-afternoon when the laptop was in sleepmode, and after the 16.231st time it stopped........
Maybe this has something to do with it?
I don't think anymore it has to do with the drivers..... I think it is a wáaáááy bigger and more complicated issue
Sorry for still adding information; I'm trying to find out what causes/caused this problem and how I can fix it (without going to a store for support/repare). Maybe you can figure out what happened and find a solution from everything I post
Thanks again for reading! :smileyembarrassed:

Hi DavidSMP,
Thanks again for your reply!
I understand you give me these options as a solution for the Wi-Fi-problem.
I figured them out myself (off course ) but was hoping I could avoid them
Thank you for your patience and efforts to help me, thanks Microsoft (nót ) for causing me all this trouble and wasting my time :womanfrustrated: ! ! !

Hi @Dutchesss,
I read your response and I was away for my weekend and could not respond to you immediately.
You've displayed infinite patience, fabulous skills coupled with an indefatigable spirit to resolve the issue. Kudos to you for a job well done. It has been an absolute privilege to have shared this platform with you and to work with you. 🙂
We've worked as a team here to try and resolve it. The only other workaround to eliminate faulty hardware would be to backup your important data to the cloud or to an external hard drive and reinstall windows or perform a recovery to factory settings and check again. We've thought of every conceivable and possible solution under the sun. You could try to use the wifi USB dongle as suggested in my previous post if nothing else pans out even after a recovery.
Trust me I've done all I can to help you here. It has been an absolute privilege to have worked with you and to share this platform. 🙂
