I have a new HP 15-fd0062na 16 inch Intel Core i5 8GB with 512GB SSD. I have completed a restore from my existing system using AOMEI Backupper which completed, However on booting up it tells me that my Windows password needs changing and that I need to be connected to the internet for this to happen.

The problem is the laptop WiFi is turned OFF so I cannot see my network. Does anyone know please how to switch the laptop WiFi to ON.

Any and all  help greatly  appreciated.

Hi @robc54,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To turn on WiFi on your HP 15-fd0062na laptop, follow these steps:

Physical WiFi Button or Switch:

  • Some HP laptops have a physical button or switch to enable or disable the WiFi. Look for a button with a wireless icon on the keyboard or a switch on the side of the laptop.

Function Key Combination:

  • Use the keyboard combination, usually Fn + one of the function keys (F1 through F12) that has a wireless icon on it. The exact key combination varies between models, but it often involves the F12 key, which might have an LED indicator that changes color when the WiFi is enabled or disabled.

Windows Settings:

  • Click on the Start menu and go to Settings.
  • Select Network & Internet.
  • Click on Wi-Fi in the left panel and toggle the Wi-Fi switch to On.

Action Center:

  • Open the Action Center by clicking the notification icon at the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.
  • Look for the Wi-Fi icon and click it to toggle the WiFi on.

Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Network adapters section.
  • Right-click on your WiFi adapter and select Enable if it is disabled.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for your reply.

I have gone through your suggestions and offer the following;

There is no physical switch.

There is no function key that has either a symbol or an indicator LED. I have tried all function keys with a combination of Ctrl, Fn and Alt. No luck.

The network symbol remains with an OFF icon on it.

This happened after I completed a restore using AOMEI backupper and I got a message to say that the Windows password needed changing and that I had to be connected to the internet for this to be done.

The Laptop will not allow anything to happen until this is done.

Just to update you.

I cannot use Device Manager or any of the other Windows or system based functions as Windows will not open until the password is changed and it is telling me that I need the internet for that to function.

If you cannot get the WiFi to switch on would it be possible to create a recovery file on a USB stick and then change the BIOS setting to Boot From USB and get the laptop working that way.

I await your reply with thanks.

Hi @robc54,

Thank you for your response.

We request that you click on the wifi icon and check if networks are showing or not.

Kindly perform the System test and check:

To run a system test on an HP laptop, turn off the computer, press the power button, and immediately press F2 repeatedly to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu. Select "System Tests" and choose "Fast Test" for a quick check of major components.

Kindly share the test result with us.
