HP Recommended

Hello,

I am requesting assistance with a Wi-Fi connectivity issue on my HP laptop.

Product: HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg2xxx
Operating System: Windows 11
Processor: Intel Core i7-1255U
Wireless Adapter: MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) PCIe Adapter
Driver Version: 3.0.1.1337 (Driver Date: 09/19/2025)

Problem

My laptop will not connect to my home Xfinity Wi-Fi network.

When I select my network, Windows displays "Verifying and connecting" for several seconds and then reports "Can't connect to this network."

What Works

  • Ethernet connection works normally.
  • Internet access works normally over Ethernet.
  • The laptop connects successfully to my phone's mobile hotspot.
  • The Wi-Fi adapter detects nearby wireless networks.
  • Other devices (phones, tablets, etc.) connect to my Xfinity Wi-Fi without any issues.

Adapter Status

Device Manager reports:

MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax PCIe Adapter
Status: "This device is working properly."

The adapter temporarily disappeared after uninstalling it but later reappeared after rescanning hardware and currently shows no errors.

Router Information

  • ISP: Xfinity
  • Security: WPA2-PSK (AES)
  • 2.4 GHz Mode: 802.11g/n
  • 5 GHz Mode: 802.11a/n/ac/ax
  • MAC Filtering: Disabled (Allow All)
  • SSID Broadcast: Enabled

No recent router configuration changes were made before this issue started.

Troubleshooting Already Performed

  • Restarted the laptop multiple times.
  • Restarted the Xfinity gateway multiple times.
  • Reset Windows network settings.
  • Forgot and re-added the Wi-Fi network.
  • Verified the Wi-Fi password multiple times.
  • Confirmed Ethernet works.
  • Confirmed mobile hotspot works.
  • Disabled and re-enabled the Wi-Fi adapter.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the Wi-Fi adapter.
  • Attempted driver updates.
  • Ran Windows Network Troubleshooter.
  • Ran Administrator network reset commands including:
    • netsh winsock reset
    • netsh int ip reset
    • netcfg -d
  • Rebooted after resets.
  • Verified the Wi-Fi radio is enabled.
  • Verified the adapter supports WPA2 and WPA3.
  • Tested changing Advanced adapter settings including:
    • Preferred Band
    • 802.11ax
    • 802.11ac
    • 802.11n
    • U-APSD Support
  • None of these changes resolved the issue.

Diagnostic Results

I ran the following commands:

  • netsh wlan show interfaces
  • netsh wlan show drivers
  • netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid

Results show:

  • Windows correctly detects the MediaTek MT7921 adapter.
  • The driver loads successfully.
  • The Wi-Fi radio is ON.
  • The adapter scans and detects nearby wireless networks normally.
  • The adapter supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
  • The adapter successfully connects to my phone's hotspot.
  • The adapter consistently fails only when attempting to authenticate with my Xfinity Wi-Fi network.

Assistance Requested

Based on the troubleshooting completed, I would appreciate assistance determining whether this is:

  • A known compatibility issue between the MediaTek MT7921 adapter and Xfinity gateways.
  • A BIOS issue.
  • A MediaTek driver issue.
  • A firmware issue.
  • A Windows networking issue.
  • A hardware issue with the wireless adapter.

If applicable, please provide the latest HP-recommended BIOS, chipset, and MediaTek wireless driver for my exact model, along with any known fixes for MT7921 authentication failures with Xfinity gateways.

Thank you.
