Hello-

I need to upgrade my wifi card as it currently doesn't support 5g. Currently have the Realtek RTL8723DE. Can someone point me in the right direction to which card is compatible with my laptop? Also instructions for installation would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Hi:

You can upgrade to this card with a direct swap.  This card works with one antenna cable.

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

The only place I have been able to find this model is on eBay.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15

The card has the same throughput as the RTL8723 on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

On a dual band wireless N router, it would have a maximum throughput of 150 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure...

Thank you for the response. So is this the correct one I should be ordering? https://www.ebay.com/itm/L17365-005-RTL8821CE-OEMHP-WIRELESS-BLUETOOTH-CARD-15-DA-15-DA0032WM-CA73-7...

Is there anything else I need to buy? I reviewed the service manual and it should be straightforward.

You're very welcome.

The card you selected will be fine.

You don't need to buy anything else.

Just use extreme care when removing the antenna cable from the card in there now.

The cable is very thin and delicate and the wifi terminal on the card is also delicate and occasionally comes off and gets stuck inside the antenna connector.

Here are the links to the latest wifi and bluetooth drivers if you don't have them installed now.

This 8821 uses the same drivers as your current one.
