Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

Yesterday my laptop underwent the Windows 10 update (I couldn't stop it, it just happened automatically) and after that all traces of wifi-drivers and the wifi-button were gone. I have searched online for solutions and tried literally everything, also downloaded drivers from the hp-support site, but I can't get the wifi-reinstalled. I found a Broadcom-driver in the hidden devices in the device-manager, and found a message there that it wasn't working so un-installed it, downloaded the driver again but I can't get it re-installed.

Please don't say 'switch on the wifi-button' or whatever, because there is no wifi-button to be found anywhere anymore on my laptop, also in network-settngs I only see the ethernet- and bluetooth-options, no wifi-stuff anywhere. It all just disappeared thanks to this stupid Windows-update!

Please HP-support, what now?

@Rukoize

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

I understand your wifi drivers have disappeared into thin air after the windows 10 updates,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

Have you attempted a system restore?

Did you run a hardware test on the computer using the F2 key during a restart?

In the meantime, The best way to do that is using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

Please reply with the details for further assistance.

Eager to help!

If I have helped you resolve the issue,

feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon

followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution'

And Have a great day Ahead!

Hi Riddle_Decipher

To answer your questions:

my product = HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p261nb (ENERGY STAR) (productnr L0Z64EA#UUG)

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

yes, I checked if I had an old vpn-cisco thing installed as apparently that turned up as a problem with Windows10 (answer = no, it's not on my computer), I updated the drivers and also downloaded drivers from HP-site (Broadcom driver) and Microsoft-site, but installation doesn't seem to go through (i tried a few times) and I did all the checks I found on several sites but most of the checks I can't even do, because I don't see anything related to wifi-stuff 😞

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

Saturday night, before an automatic Windows-update started all of a sudden (apparently it wasn't the creators-update, as I now got a message that the creators-update will be offered in a few days).

Have you attempted a system restore?

No, wanted to, but because I was on vacation for 2 weeks and didn't use the laptop, i got the notification that I couldn't do a restore because too much time had passed since the last update or something like that...

Did you run a hardware test on the computer using the F2 key during a restart?

No, that's a bit out of my league I'm afraid, but I'll try to do the Troubleshooter you suggest.

Thanks for you help!

Kind regards

Hi Riddle_Decipher

I've gone through all the steps in the troubleshooting-wizard, except for the last thing which was reset to factory-settings (I was too scared to do that, to be honest). Nothing helped!

But, I have a weird laptop. Today I decided to bring it to a specialist for help, but decided to do one final restart (for the millionth time). The laptop stalled with the restart (just showed the HP-logo en that was it), so I did a 'hard' restart, pushed the power button for 10 secs and waited 10 secs and then pushed power button again. Laptop restarted normally and guess what: there was my wifi-button, finally! I don't understand it.

I restarted again, just to be sure I wasn't dreaming, and with the next restart the button was still there and I'm now working wireless 🙂

Now I remember that on Sunday, when my wifi had dissappeared after the windows-update, the same thing had happened (laptop had stalled twice that weekend during starting), so maybe there is a glitch somewhere in the starting process?

So I'll monitor it for a few days, and keep you posted.

One more question though: I still have to go through with the creators'update of Windows 10 in a few days I guess (I got a notification that I will receive the update soon). Is it safe? I read a lot of complaints online. Can I skip the update or should I take the risk?

Thanks for your help!!

Kind regards;

Hi @Rukoize,

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I'm glad to hear you found the solution you were looking for.

I would sincerely suggest you keep the computer under observation and check how it performs.

If you need any assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us again.

Next thing, regarding the Creators update, this is a recommended update from Microsoft for all users. If the update pop-ups please go ahead and update it to Creators update.

Before doing it, If you wish you can go ahead download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

I hope this information helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.
