Hi. I gave an HP Pavilion G7. I've never had any issues with the wifi adapter til now. Light on F12 stays red. Any diagnostics I run tell me there is no adaptor, however device manager shows the adaptor and says is working properly. Is there a way to fix this to turn it back on?

Hi @Sharonfreij11,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the wifi adaptor.
This could be a hardware issue.
However, If your HP Pavilion G7 laptop is showing a red light on the F12 key and diagnostics indicate there is no Wi-Fi adapter detected, but Device Manager shows the adapter as working properly, it may be a software or hardware issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Wi-Fi Switch (F12 Key)
- Toggle the Wi-Fi: Press the F12 key (with or without the Fn key, depending on your keyboard setup) to toggle the Wi-Fi on and off.
- Check the Indicator Light: The light should turn white or blue, indicating the Wi-Fi is enabled.
2. Reinstall Wi-Fi Drivers
- Open Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
- Expand Network Adapters: Locate your Wi-Fi adapter.
- Uninstall Device: Right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter and select "Uninstall device." Ensure you check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device."
- Restart the Laptop: Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the Wi-Fi driver. If it doesn't, you can download the latest driver from the HP Support website.
3. Update Wi-Fi Drivers
- Download Latest Driver: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest Wi-Fi driver for your HP Pavilion G7.
- Install the Driver: Run the downloaded file to install the driver.
- Restart the Laptop: Restart your laptop and check if the Wi-Fi works.
4. Check Network Settings
- Open Network Settings: Press Win + I to open Settings, then go to "Network & Internet."
- Change Adapter Options: Click on "Change adapter options."
- Enable Wi-Fi Adapter: Right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter and select "Enable" if it's disabled.
5. Perform a Network Reset
- Open Network Settings: Press Win + I to open Settings, then go to "Network & Internet."
- Network Reset: Scroll down and select "Network reset." Follow the instructions to reset network settings. This will remove and reinstall all network adapters and reset networking components to their default settings.
6. BIOS Settings
- Enter BIOS:
- Shut down your laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F10 to enter the BIOS setup utility.
- Check Wireless Settings: Ensure that the wireless adapter is enabled in the BIOS settings.
- Save and Exit: Save any changes and exit the BIOS.
Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Sharonfreij11,
Kindly find the next set of steps below.
7. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn Off the Laptop: Shut down your laptop completely.
- Disconnect Power and Remove Battery: Unplug the power adapter and, if applicable, remove the battery.
- Press and Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect Power: Reinsert the battery (if removed) and reconnect the power adapter.
- Turn On the Laptop: Power on the laptop and check if the Wi-Fi works.
8. Check for Windows Updates
- Open Settings: Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Update & Security: Go to "Update & Security."
- Check for Updates: Click on "Check for updates" and install any available updates.
9. HP Support Assistant
- Download HP Support Assistant: If you don't already have it, download it from the HP Support Assistant page.
- Run HP Support Assistant: Use it to check for any missing drivers or updates for your laptop.
10. Restore System to a Previous State
If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your system to a previous state using System Restore.
- Open System Restore: Type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar and select "Create a restore point."
- System Restore: Click on "System Restore" and follow the instructions to choose a restore point from a date when the Wi-Fi was working.
If none of the above steps work, there may be a deeper hardware issue with the Wi-Fi adapter. Contact HP phone Support.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
