Hi @jktom,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the drivers or settings for your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your HP laptop. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can solve many issues. Try restarting your laptop and see if the icons reappear.
  • Check Airplane Mode: Make sure that your laptop is not in Airplane mode, as it disables both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can toggle Airplane mode on/off through the Action Center or in the system settings.
  • Function Key Toggle: Many laptops have function keys that can disable or enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Look for the relevant function key on your laptop's keyboard (usually indicated by an antenna or wireless symbol) and press it while holding down the "Fn" key.
  • Device Manager: Open the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager." Look for the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters under the "Network adapters" and "Bluetooth" sections. If there's a yellow triangle icon or an exclamation mark next to them, it indicates a driver issue. Right-click and choose "Update driver."
  • Check Network Settings: Go to the Windows Settings app, then navigate to "Network & Internet" > "Wi-Fi" and "Bluetooth." Make sure the switches are turned on for both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  • Restart Network Services: Press Win + R, type "services.msc," and press Enter. Look for services related to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, such as "WLAN AutoConfig" and "Bluetooth Support Service." Right-click and choose "Restart."
  • System Restore: If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your system to a point before the problem occurred using System Restore. Type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar and follow the prompts.
  • Check for Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updates can address driver issues.
  • Driver Reinstallation: If updating drivers doesn't work, you might need to uninstall the current drivers for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth from the Device Manager and then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers upon reboot.
  • System Check: If the issue persists, it could be a hardware problem. Consider running hardware diagnostics provided by HP to check for any hardware failures.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
