HP G4 245
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi hp forum users and experts,

I have visited some posts similar to my problem and i feel none of them matches exactly, and someone would be helpful and enthusiastic enough to reply.

So i have a hp g4 245, which was govt distributed. it has been formatted twice, and now when i use the wifi, it shows very low coverage. As a fix, repair guy changed the antennae slot in wifi card, that showed rise in network immediately but now its fluctuating, with much slower speed. So he says its hardware problem, but i feel its software related, as the same hardware gave nice coverage and speed before the OS reinstall.

So, can anyone, tell me 1. how to ensure if the software is correct or not? so that i can decide to change hardware or use LAN. 2. Would simply uninstalling(he installed the driver that comes with windows as a package) and reinstalling driver(from hp official website) to ensure correct driver presence, be of any risk? I mean, would new driver(from hp website) work with OS, or would it corrupt and cause bigger problems? (fyi i had BSOD coz computer power disconnected while updating, and OS reinstaled after that. only C drive was formatted)

Please post the bit of any answer or information you have to solve this.

Thanks in advance.

In this case, it is better to check first the equipment on which the Internet speed depends. This can be monitoring a server or checking a router. If there are no problems with internet speed on other devices, then your laptop may have a software or hardware problem with Wi-Fi.

Hi @Kroffa, thank you for reply. Yes, router is fine with all other devices. Now, when I am sure its this computer, and i believe it would be software, can i simply uninstall the wifi driver and install it from hp website? Or this could lead to worse problems?
