Started 2 plus years ago. Was not sure if it was a bad wifi adapter. Many errors & constantly cutting out. Failing to start.
Finally installed a new wifi adapter AC9260 & got it to recognize it. Still problems constant with it failing to start. Losing the adapter trying resetting to find it & reinstall drivers. Finally found one driver that worked somewhat reliably.
It was the only one that did not have 160 MHz after it. H=Just Intell wireless 9260 not intel wireless 9260 160 MHz
Upon upgrading to 2004 win that driver was removed from my system. Now they all have 160 MHz after them.
The only one that worked so far is the microsoft driver but when the laptop goes to sleep it wakes not working & unable to find any wifi available. Reinstalled the microsoft driver & it worked for a few minutes & then stopped again.
I know this is driver related & not the card or else the card does not work well with this laptop that originally came with the AC 7260. At this point I am tempted to buy a new AC 7260 & install that & see if I can drivers to work but I fear that may also be bad or worse as the AC 7260 currently not getting updated drivers.
I spent countless hours & 19 pges on trying to resolve this in 2019. Then I was away for one year Covid stranded.
Now I am back & this wifi issue is still not resolved.
I have a Z book G 4800 too & its been plagued with the same losing of the wifi. All my other 3 elitebooks wifi has never failed.
Getting very frustrated but again trying to figure this out.
Even did a new install of windows way back & that did not seem to help. Not going to do that again & just have been plugging it into the ethernet & luckily it has not been too inconvenient as I use it at home & don't move it around.
I have been through all the work arounds to resolve this. It does seem to be driver related but I have never found a driver other than the one I lost that would work with some consistently & now I don't have it available in my computer & don't know how to find it.
Took this screen cap of the wifi.
I am again trying to resolve this & very much thinking to get a new stock wifi card that came with this the AC 7260 & hope its some incompatibility with the ability of this laptop to read the newer frequency of the newer 9260.
Very tiresome to have to spend so much time again & might just give up again for a while & use the ethernet but though it might be worth looking into again. Just cant fathom why its just the Z Books & both of them have different wifi adapters. The other adapter in the Z G1 is I believe the intel centrino 6235 (that zbook also had an option for the AC7260.
Any help/ advice appreciated
Special thanks to Paul whom took more along 19 pages in 2019 in an attempt to resolve this.
Original attempt to resolve
Just repaired the intel pro set in programs & it found that driver without the 160 MHz. Restarted & its working at the moment. I don't know if they recommended to instal the proset software from intel or not but trying everything.
This appears to be the best driver & not sure why it does not have 160MHz after it like all the others.
Still trying things but for the most part its been a never ending challenge to get the wifi to stay on & to find avail networks.
Apparently still a conflict as its reset 80 plus times in the last few minutes but has been online though it is getting alot of errors.
Less than half hour. began to fail, errors, conflict resources, reset & then wifi was stopped but still says working in device mgr properties.
It seems so hopeless

I got the driver installed again by repairing the pro set in programs . So now at least its back in my choice to install from my computer files where as it disappeared after 2004 upgrade & only all 160 MHz were avail. Dated 9/25/2018 ver 20. 90.7
Its intel proset wireless software 20.90.0
It may have been downloaded previously & in my files. Not sure if intel still provides it.
Hope you gets yours.
Right now it does not help much as it keeps cutting out still so I an plugged into ethernet.

I gave up and reverted to the 7260 using the oldest drivers possible. I have fewer device resets since, although it's still not seamless. I'll either buy a wifi dongle or a new laptop, I haven't decided yet.
