Hi @Justin2568,

I reviewed the post comprehensively. I understand that you've done copious and exhaustive troubleshooting, paying complete attention to detail. So the best course of action would be to order a wireless USB dongle and plug it to one of the USB ports of the computer and connect to the router to go online. This should do the trick for you.

Also, check if the router has an issue by connecting the computer to a different network at work or at a library or a Hotspot to isolate the issue further. If the computer works fine on a different network, then the issue could be with the router.

I am sure your other devices connect to the same home network without hassles. Is that correct?

If other devices lose connection, then please get the router checked.

It has been terrific working with you and I hope things work great for you and the computer. 🙂 Trust me I've done all I can to help in this regard, by keeping your best interest in mind. At least we deduced what was wrong working as a team. So try with a wifi USB dongle and that should work fine.

Hi @Justin2568,

Good day. May the forums welcome you! 🙂 It is a great location to find resolutions.

I reviewed the post about the wireless connection dropping randomly on the unit. I’ll be more than happy to assist you here. 🙂

At the outset, you’ve diagnosed the issue perfectly and performed great analysis of the situation before posting the query on HP forums.

Excellent job on that score. Kudos to you. It is always a privilege to work with technically savvy customers.

I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. We value your relationship with HP and wish to serve you better. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did this begin after a windows or software update?
  • Did you check if it works on a hard wired Ethernet connection?

It may be a hardware issue with the wireless card of the computer also which may need to be replaced.

To isolate the issue correctly, please perform all the steps from these links: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5082212/model/5...

If this does not resolve the issue, please try to check the steps in this link: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Common-fixes-for-wireless-connectivity...

If this does not work, please uninstall the wifi drivers from device manager and restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and wifi drivers from this link http://hp.com/drivers Please select the country and type the product# of the unit and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please update the drivers using an Ethernet cable.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

Hey i tried all the things you said and i still get disconnected from the internet from time to time.

My Ethernet does not work when i plug in an ethernet cable so i cant uninstall my drivers and update with an ethernet.

In my device manager and into network adapters, it shows:

Bluetooth device (personal area network)

Bluetooth Device ( RFCOMM Protocol TDI)

Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030

Microsoft Virtual Wifi miniport adapter

and is it normal for under the network adapter it says other devices and shows:

Ethernet Controller

SM Bus Controller

I dont know what to do after trying all these things but the only thing that has changed is that i stay connected to the internet for a little bit longer

Hi @Justin2568,

Brilliant effort and remarkable troubleshooting.  Kudos to you for a job well done. 🙂 So if the unit does not connect using the wifi network or ethernet cable and keeps disconnecting periodically, I would suggest a clean system recovery back to factory settings to start over again to isolate the issue to not being hardware related.

Please back up your data first and then run a  recovery to factory settings. Link for running system recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5082212/model/5... Please select the option "Steps to follow for Recovery from the startup screen (during system boot) OR when unable to boot to login in screen"

There is an associated video also for it. This is being done to ensure that there are no hardware issues with the computer that is preventing the computer from not connecting to the internet. (wifi card could be faulty).

If you do not want to perform a system recovery a workaround would be to order a USB wifi dongle and connect it to the router and then access the internet. It is very cost effective. That will be good route to go if the wifi card is not working and disconnects randomly.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

Ok so i had to do an upgrade to windows 10 because i lost my disc for windows 7 and couldnt factory reset. I couldnt recover either because there were no recovery spots to before this was an issue. So i upgraded to windows 10 and did the factory reset and it still disconeects me every now and the so i think the problem ks the hardware.
