My husband's HP Envy Dv4 was working fine on the wifi for a long time and then it stopped working in the last few months. I troubleshot the issue and it seemed to be related to the upgrade to Windows 10 that he did at some point. The wireless network adapter is not even listed in the Network and Internet > Network Connections under Settings. The F12 key (with the radio wave icon) is showing a solid amber light even though the airplane mode is off. We purchased an external USB wifi adapter (ANEWKODI 600 Mbps) to get the laptop on wifi again. It worked for a while but then it stopped working for no reason. I tried the external USB wifi adapter on an old DELL Laptop running Windows Vista and it didn't work on that laptop either. Any suggestions on what I could do to fix the wifi on the HP Envy Dv4 Notebook? Thanks!

Hi
Since the only return was for an ethernet device, my guess is you have a failed WiFi Adapter.
Wireless Connectivity | 1x1 802.11b/g/n WLAN Bluetooth |
You have no BlueTooth listed either, firming up my guess.
http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=C3Q25UA
Wireless Interface | |||
690020-001 | Ralink RT3290LE 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 combination adapter |
Also 192.168.1.x is a private range of numbers, and almost everyone uses 192.168.X.X
The X is a range of 256, so X x X 256 x 256 is 65536. So person 65537 will have a duplicate.
Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter
Connection Name: WiFi
DHCP Enabled: Yes
DHCP Server: 192.168.0.1
IP address(es)
[01]: 192.168.0.11
So the IP address is not really a security or privacy issue.
I think you should replace the WiFi adapter with either the same again or a USB version.
If in doubt please ask.

Hi
Try
HP Wireless Button Driver | 1.0.6.1 | 2.7 MB | Nov 14, 2012 | Download |
Can you name the adapter please?
Could you please expand on the
MAKE, MODEL, OS and SKU?
WinKey + R and type msinfo32 then look at line 9 for the SKU.
There are a few other things, but a better target to aim at would be preferable.
This short script is to gather information on some parts of your system
OS, Networking Hardware and Software etc.
Copy and paste the section between the ~~~~ lines, into NotePad.
Save as CF4.bat somewhere easily accessible. Double click to Run
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
@ECHO OFF
getmac
systeminfo
PowerShell -Command "Get-NetAdapter"
PowerShell -Command "Get-NetAdapter -Name * | Format-Table -View Driver"
PowerShell -Command "GIP -Detailed"
PowerShell -Command "Test-NetConnection"
PAUSE
The output may look something like this...
Hi CF4,
Thank you very much for your very thorough response. Here is some of the information:
- Can you name the adapter please?
I see a lot of Network adapters listed but the only one that says 'Wi-Fi' is the following: Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.
- Could you please expand on the
MAKE, MODEL, OS and SKU?
HP ENVY dv4 Notebook PC, OS: Windows 10 (version 10.0.16299 build 16299), SKU: C3Q25UA#ABA
- Here is the output from the script (I edited the Internet addresses because I wasn't comfortable posting that information publicly):
