  • My laptop is no longer giving me the option to connect to any wifi. From the mini menu at the bottom there is no option for me to turn off or on wifi as it simply isn’t there and when I go into my settings it says that an Ethernet cable isn’t connected but my laptop hasn’t got a connection point for it. I have tried restarting the laptop multiple times as it says further down on the list of things to do but this has also not worked, any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @HT55,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the Wi-Fi connectivity on your HP Pavilion laptop. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check Physical Wi-Fi Switch: Some HP laptops have a physical switch or button to enable or disable Wi-Fi. Look for a switch on the sides of your laptop and make sure it's in the "On" position.

Function Key: On some laptops, you can use a function key (e.g., F2 or F12) to toggle the Wi-Fi on and off. Press the appropriate function key (usually, there's an icon that looks like a wireless signal) while holding down the "Fn" key.

Airplane Mode: Ensure that Airplane Mode is turned off. Airplane Mode disables both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can access this setting through the Windows settings or by pressing the Windows key + A and clicking on the Airplane Mode icon.

Device Manager: Check the Device Manager to see if the Wi-Fi adapter is disabled or has a problem. To do this:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Network adapters" section.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and choose "Enable" if it's disabled. If it has a yellow triangle icon or an error message, you may need to update the driver or troubleshoot further.

Update Wi-Fi Driver: Outdated or corrupted Wi-Fi drivers can cause connectivity issues. Visit the HP website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest Wi-Fi driver for your system. Install it and restart your laptop.

Network Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in network troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix common network problems. To run it:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
  • Under the "Advanced network settings" section, click on "Network troubleshooter" and follow the on-screen instructions.

System Restore: If the issue started recently and you're unable to pinpoint the cause, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your computer to a state where the Wi-Fi was working correctly.

Reset Network Settings: You can try resetting your network settings to their default state. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status, and under "Network reset," click on "Network reset."

Check for Physical Damage: Inspect your laptop's Wi-Fi hardware for any physical damage.

Remember to back up important data before attempting major troubleshooting steps like a system restore or network reset, as they can affect your system settings and files.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
