When connecting to my local network and internet using the onboard ethernet adaptor the properties indicate that the link speed is only 100/100. The product spec indicates that the machine can go up to gigabit speed. When connected wireless or using a USB ethernet adaptor I can achieve my actual internet provider speeds of 200+.
Is this down to a setting or is in fact the spec of the onboard ethernet adaptor as supplied by HP?
I don't get a full 100 download speed and instead get approximately 50% of my wireless speed. Presumably this is because the adaptor limits the incoming speed as a percentage.

Hi:
The product specs for your notebook indicate that it has a gigabit ethernet adapter.

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try a CAT6 ethernet cable if you are not using one now.

Thanks for your reply.
From the product spec that I had seen it was unclear whether the higher speed was linked to the Wi-Fi adapter.
The machine is connected using a Cat 6 cable and another laptop using the same cable is able to access at full speed so it appears to be a problem with this particular laptop, either hardware or software related.

You're very welcome.
The wifi adapter your notebook comes with, has a maximum throughput of 867 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't know why the gigabit ethernet adapter is only connecting at 100 MBPS.
Check the advanced settings for the ethernet adapter in the device manager, and make sure the adapter is set to connect to 1 GB/S if there is such a setting listed there.
