When I connect a logitec keyboard and mouse  combo to the notebook, and at startup the keyboard keys and number pad with numlock ON works fine,  after boot the logitech number pad refuses any keystrokes with numlock on or off.  I have to refer back to the notebook number pad when I need to enter any number.   I used regedit to check the keyboard settings (2,1,31) which is normal to set numlock "ON"  in startup "On Start".  How can I fix the wireless keyboard number pad to make the number pad function with  the numbers or up down left right keys, with numlock on or off.  Note when pressing numlock key the screen shows either numlock on or off

Hi @JMAC14,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue with your Logitech wireless keyboard's number pad not functioning properly after boot may be due to a conflict between the Logitech device and your HP 14 Laptop's settings, driver issues, or interference. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Update Logitech Software and Drivers

  • Ensure you have the latest Logitech software installed (e.g., Logitech Options or Logitech SetPoint).
  • Visit the Logitech support site to download the latest drivers for your keyboard and mouse combo.

Check Keyboard Settings in the OS

  • Open Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard (on Windows 10/11).
  • Disable any settings related to "Filter Keys" or "Sticky Keys" that might interfere with key recognition.

Verify Num Lock Behavior

  • Boot into the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually Esc, F10, or Delete).
  • Look for a Num Lock state at boot setting and ensure it’s set to ON.
  • Save changes and restart the system.

Check Registry Settings

You’ve already checked HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators. Ensure the value is set correctly:

  • 0: Num Lock off
  • 2: Num Lock on
  • 2147483648: Preserve current state

After changing this value, restart your computer to apply the settings.

Test the Keyboard on Another Device

  • Connect your Logitech keyboard to another computer to verify if the number pad behaves as expected.
    • If the issue persists, the keyboard itself may be faulty.
    • If it works fine, proceed with troubleshooting your laptop.

Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards and find your Logitech keyboard.
  3. Right-click and select Uninstall Device.
  4. Disconnect and reconnect the Logitech receiver.
  5. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Use Logitech Unifying Receiver Software

  • If your keyboard and mouse combo uses a Logitech Unifying Receiver, use the Unifying Software to pair and troubleshoot device communication.

Check for Interference

  • Ensure the USB receiver is not plugged into a hub or far from the keyboard and mouse. Try connecting it directly to a USB port on the laptop.
  • Test in a different environment to rule out signal interference from other wireless devices.

Update Your Laptop’s Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support page for your HP 14 Laptop and ensure all drivers, including chipset and BIOS/UEFI firmware, are up to date.

Use Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter.

Consider Power Management Settings

  1. In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  2. Right-click each USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub, and select Properties.
  3. Under the Power Management tab, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
