Just bought new Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 PCIe Half Mini Card

After installation I get a message on boot-up

Wireless Module not supported

The system has deteted a Wireless modue Installed in the system is not supported.  System halted.  Please remove device and restart.

WLAN Module ID (702)

I am running HP Pavilion dv7-4183cl Entertainment Notebook PC with latest BIOS.

Any suggestions on getting that Intel Wireless Card working?

I want the 802.11AC with Bluetooth 4.0

I dont understand why this card should not work.  Why would HP prevent me from using this card.  Will HP modify the BIOS so this card can be used?

Called HP support today.

I seemed to know more about this then he did.

Conclusion.

Dont buy HP.  Why ?  Well, I do understand that for FCC regulations they might want to limit what cards get put in.  But my problem is that they dont go back and update the bios with new ones that do fit FCC regulations.

Dont buy Intel.   If you read the infomation that they provide end-user installation is 'illegal'

Then why did I find this product on both Newegg and Tigerdirect.

If you look at the forums I am not the only one with is issue LOTS are having it.

So to sum it up.

My HP notebook can not be upgraded to a internal Wireless AC with Bluetooth.

Hi,

The list of allowable Hardware devices is coded in the bios and the reason you are seeing this error message is because the wireless card you are trying to install is not on this 'Whitelist'.

Hope it helps!

Thank You

So how do I convince HP to update the BIOS to include this card.

I dont even understand why that have that "whitelist"

It's not just HP who are implementing the whitelist. Lenovo and Sony in some of their models have whitelist too. See this link as to why they put those whitelist http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-011644.htm

I am not very computer savy but trying to improve myself.

I was curious to know what O/S your HP Pavilion dv7-4183cl is using.

I have been observing different areas of the internet about this issue and I have yet to know of a computer with successful WiFi using Intel 7260 AC that is not using Windows 8.1.

I have obsevered that there are issues with the Intel cards using windows 8.0 during 2012-2013.

That somehow there were fixes by upgrading to 8.1.

(This is also with the Intel 2230 wireless card as well.  If this is or was only a driver issue is yet to be confirmed in my mind.)

Are there any unmentioned upgrades included in an upgrade to 8.1 that allow for a bios to accept a particular card?

I don't know, but 8.1 seems to be compatible with 7260AC from what I have read with computers that can accept an Intel 3160AC which is not whitelisted.

I currently have a NON whitelisted Intel 3160 which is a dual channel with 433.3Mbs.

I am considering upgrading to the Intel 7260 as you wish to do to improve speed because as I have understood it works for other users who have attempted this upgrade.

The Intel 7260 is not listed in the User Manual for my 17T-j100.

My O/S is 8.1.

I am lurking to find out if I can make this upgrade without problems.
