Hi:

See if updating the Wifi driver to the latest version resolves the problem.

Hi,

Thank you for the answer, I downloaded the driver.

I'm waiting for the green light of the owner to install this driver (this is a professional computer..)

Will update when I have installed

Regards

Hello Paul,

The installed driver is ;

2024.0.10.221 07/12/2020

It has been installed by the support (the pc is a professional pc).

So it does  not correspond to the one you gave me (2024 0.10.224)

Nevertheless, I had a look in  wireless card advanced properties.

"n" mode is available for 2.4 and 5 G ((you can select the band)

But in the "wireless mode" setting, no "n" mode nor "ac" mode.

So I decided to install the one you gave .

When I try to install this new driver,  the system answers "cannot found better driver than the one installed".

Weird, as I have downloaded the exe file  from the link you gave that is:

sp136022 .exe  version 0.2.56.9141 (details of the file under windows).

The net, is that the support installed a newer driver, but not the last

I do not know what they did in details, but I would like to install the last one.

Thank you for your help,

Best regards,

Claude

Hi, Claude:

The driver I gave you is newer than the one you currently have installed.

I'm not sure why the 2024 0.10.224 driver version didn't install.

You can try manually installing the driver and see if that works.

To manually install the driver, go to the device manager.

Click on the RTL8821CE wifi adapter.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp136022.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

I have a HP 255 G7 (AMD processor) with the same wifi adapter, and I am running version 2024 0.10.224 on mine.

The advanced settings for mine do not have an AC setting either.  Just 802.11n channel for 2.4 GHz and 802.11 channel for 5.2 GHz.

But the notebook is connecting to my wifi router at 433.3 MBPS, which is the fastest speed that model wifi adapter can connect. This is on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

That is an AC connection speed.

The fastest N speed with a 1 x 1 wifi card on the 5.0 GHz wifi band would be 150 MBPS.

So, verify that your wifi adapter is connecting at more than 150 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

To do that, go to the Windows control panel>Network an Internet>Network and Sharing center>click on your wireless connection on the right side of the 'View your active networks' section and there you will see the speed your wifi adapter is connecting at.

The download speed may be slower than the connection speed, but you can at least verify that the card is connecting at the right speed.

Hi Paul,

Many thanks for your answer...now 2024.0.10.224 driver is installed.

I still cannot get a better rate than 72,2 Mbits/s !

My router is running 2.4  Ghz b,g,n  modes on 20 Mhz   and 5 Ghz a,n,ac  modes on 40 Mhz

My PC seems stuck on n mode at 2.4 Ghz /20Mhz,

I am investigating....any idea is welcome ...

Will keep you updated,

Have a good day,

Best regards,

Claude

Hi, Claude:

The max throughput is correct at 72 MBPS on the 2.4 GHz WiFi band, but something is not right on the 5.0 GHZ band.

That should be 433 MBPS.

Perhaps you should change the 40 MHz setting on the 5.0 GHz band to auto - 20/40 MHz.

Hi Paul,

In fact the 5G Network was not seen by the PC.

I activated the "show SSID" parameter in the router.

Now I can connect to the router through the 5G and the wireless mode is ac.

The only point is that I get 200 Mbps rate....not 433 like you.

I'll investigate this (maybe the answer is in this forum) , but thanks to you, we made big progress.

I can consider this problem as fixed,.

If I find any solution to this "low rate" vs yours, i'll post my finding here...this could help someone else maybe..

Thanks for your support,

Have a good day,

Best regards,

Claude

You're very welcome, Claude.

Yes, that is progress.

The 433 MBPS connection speed is the max you will ever get.

The weaker the wifi signal, the slower the connection speed will be.

I get the 433 MBPS speed when I am 3 meters from my router in the same room.

You are definitely getting an AC 'connection speed' at 200 MBPS, because the max connection speed on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an wireless N router would only be 150 MBPS.

Cheers,

Paul
