Hello HP Community,
I’m facing a strange and frustrating issue with my HP laptop. The WiFi functionality is completely unreliable. Here's what’s happening:
The WiFi icon doesn’t show up at all after a regular boot or restart.
No wireless networks are detected — it’s as if the WiFi adapter doesn’t exist.
Sometimes, if I perform a hard shutdown (by long-pressing the power button) and then turn the laptop back on, the WiFi starts working again.
However, this workaround is also inconsistent — there are times when even after a force shutdown, the WiFi still doesn’t show up.
This issue keeps happening randomly, and when it occurs, the WiFi adapter isn’t even listed in Device Manager.
What I’ve Tried So Far:
Reinstalled and updated the WiFi driver from the official HP website — didn’t solve the issue.
Checked Airplane mode and basic Windows network settings.
Ensured Windows is up to date.
I’m wondering if this might be related to Fast Startup, driver issues, hardware problems, or power management settings.
Has anyone faced something similar or found a permanent fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
That’s part of the problem — currently, no wireless/WLAN adapter is being detected on the system.
When I run the command:
netsh wlan show drivers
It returns:
There is no wireless interface on the system.
So I can’t even see which Wi-Fi adapter is installed.
However, sometimes after a hard power off (long-pressing the power button), the Wi-Fi suddenly shows up and starts working, and the adapter appears in Device Manager as well.
But this is inconsistent — most of the time it's completely missing, as if the wireless adapter isn’t installed at all.
Let me know if there’s any other way I can find the model, or if you suspect a deeper issue. Thanks!

Hi:
Please post the product number of your specific16-d0000 notebook.
To find the product number for your PC, click on the search icon on your Windows taskbar.
Type: System Information
The System information app should show up.
Run the app and the product number of your PC will be found on the System SKU line about 1/4 of the way down on the report.

Also, as you mentioned earlier, I checked in Device Manager → Show Hidden Devices, and I found the Wi-Fi adapter listed in a faded/greyed-out state under "Network adapters".
I’ve attached a screenshot of the hidden WiFi adapter for reference.

Yes, the parts list also confirms that is the model Wi-Fi adapter your notebook comes with.
I am very surprised that you are having issues with an Intel Wi-Fi adapter since those are usually of the highest quality.
You can download and install the latest Wi-Fi driver from the Intel support site, but my fear is that the AX201 has suffered a hardware failure.

What's interesting is that chapter 3 of the service manual doesn't even list the Intel AX201 as offered in the model series.
Try installing the Intel Wi-Fi driver and see if that gets the Wi-Fi adapter to show up normally.
If not, right click on the hidden Intel wifi adapter, select Uninstall, check the uninstall driver box, restart the notebook and see if it shows up again.
Do the same thing for the hidden Intel Bluetooth device which would appear under the Bluetooth device manager category.
If nothing works, you will most likely have to replace the Wi-Fi adapter.
I'd try upgrading it to this model:
Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX + Bluetooth 5.2 M.2 2230 non-vPro HP part # / SPS # M27269-005

Thanks for the detailed explanation and the recommendations.
Yes, the Intel AX201 is indeed listed under hidden devices in Device Manager, and I confirmed it matches what’s shown in the parts list for my notebook.
I have already tried the following steps:
Downloaded and installed the latest Wi-Fi driver directly from the Intel support website.
Uninstalled the hidden Intel Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters from Device Manager (with the "Delete driver software" box checked) and restarted the laptop.
Also tried turning off Fast Startup and disabling power management options for the adapter (when visible).
Ran hardware diagnostics from HP Support Assistant — nothing detected.
The Wi-Fi adapter only appears randomly after a hard shutdown (long press power button), but not always — which makes it very inconsistent.
Unfortunately, none of these steps have worked consistently. Most of the time, the adapter doesn’t show up at all, and running netsh wlan show drivers still gives the “There is no wireless interface on the system” message.
I agree — it looks like the AX201 might have suffered a hardware failure. If you believe replacing the Wi-Fi card is the next best step, I’m open to upgrading it to the Intel AX210 as suggested (HP Part # M27269-005).

I think you should replace the card, since nothing you have tried fixed the problem.
The Intel AX201 is an odd type of Wi-Fi card called a CNVI card.
It is not a standalone device like most other Wi-Fi adapters are such as the AX210 that just need a M.2 slot and antenna wires in order to function.
A CNVI Wi-Fi card works off the processor as well as the M.2 Wi-Fi card slot.

A non-CNVI card will work in a notebook that came with a CNVI Wi-Fi card, but not the other way around.
In other words, if your notebook came with one of the Realtek Wi-Fi cards listed in chapter 3 of the service manual, and you installed an Intel AX201 or AX211, it would not work.
