When ever I open my laptop and wake it from sleep, the wireless adaptor does not wake up. I am unable to connect to the internet until I run the Windows networkdiagnostic tool which then wakes the adapter up and says there was a gateway problem. This isn't too serious, but it is irritating! Has anyone got any suggestions? All drivers are up to date according to HP Support Assistant. Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Thank you for the reply. I've studied the photos and checked the various settings they refer to and nothing seems amiss. everything is as it is in your photos (where applicable).
I've noticed on the events tab for the network adapter that it is recording instances of the device failing to start with the following error message:
Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A370&SUBSYS_00348086&REV_10\3&11583659&2&A3 had a problem starting.
Driver Name: oem113.inf
Class Guid: {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Service: Netwtw08
Lower Filters:
Upper Filters: vwifibus
Problem: 0x15
Problem Status: 0x0
The adapter itself does not appear to have a power management tab, but I've just now noticed two devices called 'Microsoft WI-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter' and 'Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2' (thanks for pointing out that devices can be hidden in DM). These DO have power settings so I have altered them accordingly. If this fixes the issue, I'll come back and close this thread. I'll need to give it a few days to check as it's not hapening everytime I open the laptop.
Regarding your message, 'If the values are fixed, then is the message reliable?', I guess this refers to the results of the network diagnostic tool which says the gateway was not available? If so, then I agree, the gateway is nothing to do with the problem, it's the software resetting the adapter that resolves the issue. I only mentioned the gateway for completeness sake.
Regarding any potential embarrasment, no worries. PC's are complicated things and getting more so all the time. I would not be embarrassed at not having intricate knowledge of their inner workings. Typos on the other hand... now that's embarrassing!
Many thanks for taking the time to reply and post those pictures.
Regards
Leigh

Cracked this by coming across an old forum post elsewhere.
It requires going into the registry and editing the following key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power. Then change the value on CsEnabled from 1 to 0.
Doing this bring the power tab back to the wifi adapters properties on device manager and gives many other options for changing your power profile.

Oh, FFS! The point being that there was NO power tab on the device until I made the registry change. If there had been, then I would have been able to change the settings and wouldn't have had to post here in the first place.
