My older HP laptop won’t enable wireless connection. The orange wireless button stays orange. I’ve tried going through the control panel but no luck resolving the issue. Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi @Pabel40,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be a hardware or driver issue with your laptop's wireless connection. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.

Check Airplane Mode: Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off. This mode disables all wireless connections, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Check the Physical Switch: Ensure that the physical wireless switch on your laptop is in the "on" position. Sometimes it's a toggle switch or a button combination (like pressing "Fn" key along with a function key labeled with a wireless icon).

Update Wireless Drivers: Go to HP website and download the latest drivers for your wireless network adapter. Install them and see if that resolves the issue.

Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu), find your wireless network adapter under "Network adapters," right-click on it, and select "Update driver."

Reset TCP/IP Stack: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands one by one:

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Check for Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with your laptop's wireless card.

Hopefully, one of these steps will help you resolve the issue with your HP laptop's wireless connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
