Hi Guys,

I have an old CQ62-219WM, I use OpenBSD and it doesn't have  drivers for this wlan module. I researched and found this [1]. Did this laptop have a BIOS  whitelist of the WLAN modules one can use? I was reading the service manual and I saw only 6 modules listed there. Also on amazon there is a warnning by the seller of [1] that says

  • Do Not USE for IBM/ LENOVO / ThinkPad & HP laptops

My research is pick one of the chipsets supported on [2] but I'm wondering if I buy the module if it will be compatible with the machine.

Thanks for reading.

Hi:

Yes, unfortunately, that model has a BIOS whitelist which restricts you to using one of the wifi cards listed in the service manual, and they must have the HP part number on them, or they will not work.

Further adding to the mess is that sometimes even if you install one of the cards listed in the manual, the BIOS rejects them.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the answer. Okay I believe I'm better off buying a usb wireless adapter with the right chipset since those are not blacklisted, thanks again and I'm marking this as resolved.

You're very welcome.

I would definitely go that route if you want a dual band N or AC adapter.

They make these new USB AC nano wifi adapters nowadays that hardly stick out of the USB port.
