hi guys

yesterday I had a problem with "hp true vision hd" driver due to error 19 : corrupted register ... after trying a bunch of things in vain all I had to do was to uninstall my avira antivirus and the probelm is gone... however right after I had another trouble with bluetooth driver and hp connexion manager couldn't be launched so I tried to fix that but I did it the wrong way : I uninstalled bluetooth, connexion manager and atheros driver from control panel and reinstalled them from hp recovery manager.... and right now the bluetooth driver is working again (even though it doesn't support the bluetooth program anymore: I can't reveive files using bluetooth program but I can send) however right now I'm having trouble with wifi (atheros adabter is not working in device manager/ my pc detects wifi connexion but can't connect) ... so I tried restoring several times in vain and right now I'm stuck between to restore points:

(1)*the actuel one (which was infact the previous one: wifi+bluetooth working(without being supported by the program) but no camera

(2)*the previous one (which is actually the recent one: bluetooth+camera working but no wifi )

so guys I'm wondering since I lost the cds of my computer is there a way to copy register of "hp true vision hd" from (1) to (2)? or shall I go to  (2) and try fixing wifi adapter?

thanks in advance 🙂

hi , thanks for the help 🙂

- here is my product number : A7M59EA#ABF

- about the updates : yes indeed , I just remembered windows performed anti-spyware monthly update so I tried to fix the problem this way :

1/ I went back to a restore point pre-update (which I didn't mention in my post: camera works but no bluetooth+wifi)

2/I reinstalled  Atheros 2011 wireless LAN driver+ Atheros bluetiith driver not from HP recovery manager but from HP website this time

3/the bluetooth is working again now but still no wifi, so I went to device manager and changed display mode to 'show hidden items' , and that's when I discovered another 'plug-play' error: jumpstart , so I uninstalled it from control pannel and then a message showed up saying that this will enable UPnP service so I clicked ok and wifi works again 🙂

4/ the was one last remaining problem: in the restore point I'm in right now, windows has already saved anti-malware update and it'd activate automatically once I shut down my laptop , so I had to disable updates and now everything works fine

but I'm still wondering: are my system files corrupted? I'm afraid to reactivate windows updates, and I even uninstalled my avira antivirus(since it keeps detecting suspicious registers) .. so what should I do to figure it out?

thanks in advance 🙂

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion dv6 series laptop. I read that the webcam is not working and the laptop detects the wifi network and cannot connect to it. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Please let me know the exact laptop model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Did any software changes or updates take place on the laptop recently?

If the laptop is able to detect the wifi network then it sounds like the wifi card is working fine. There could be other reason due to which it might not connect to the wifi.

Let us perform a Microsoft System Restore to rollback the laptop to an earlier date when everything worked fine. This will not delete your data.

Post a successful Microsoft System Restore if the issue persists then  we have a step by step guide to walk you through the troubleshooting process here:
Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection

A second option, is to try these steps:
Powercycle the network:
1. Shut down your notebook.
2. Unplug the power to your router.
3. Unplug the power to your modem.
4. Wait at least 45 seconds.
5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.
6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.
7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.

Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:
1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
2. Expand the Network adapters.
3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.
4. Click the Power Management tab.
5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
6. Click OK.
7. Test.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

Reinstall the network adapter drivers:
1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.
2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.
3. Expand Network adapters.
4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.
5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.
6. Restart your PC and test.

Test an ethernet connection:
Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.

Test another connection:
Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network.

If those three steps do not resolve the issue, try this document published by Microsoft for networking issues: Wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the dropdown in the upper-right corner of the document.

Since your laptop do not have access to the internet, you may copy the installation file from this HP link (HP MediaSmart Webcam Software) to a USB flash drive on another computer and then install it on your HP laptop.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to keep me posted. Good luck! 🙂

You're most welcome. 🙂

I'm glad to hear that the issues are resolved and everything is working fine as before. Good job on the troubleshooting part and kudos to you for that.

If you feel that the system files are corrupt then we could fix them by using the System File Checker (SFC). The following steps will help:

  • Click Start . In the Search box, type Command Prompt.

  • Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Figure : Opening Command Prompt

Opening Command Prompt through the search menu

  • If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and then press Enter:

sfc /scannow     Make sure to include the space between sfc and the forward slash /

  • The System File Checker scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct versions.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to keep in touch for any further questions. Take care and have a good time with the laptop. Cheers! 🙂

hi 🙂 thanks for the tip

I just finished the scan and as I suspected windows found corrupted system files but couldn't repair them, and I couldn't access to the report

also I'm starting to have some minor problems with:

1/my atheros bluetooth+ wifi drivers

*bluetooth: the fsquirt application isn't recognised by windows: the file tranfer (especially receiving files) is handled only by bluetooth tray and at a very slow rate

*wifi: windows is recognising my wifi connexion as a 2nd one : name 2

2/I just found out that my biometric driver is gone (probably it was prior to all this but I didn't notice since I don't use it)

and still I haven't installed any antivirus yet ( I hope you can recommand me a good one that doesn't delete more system files )

is there anyway to fix this without going through a full system recovery (I don't want to lose my data + I lost the cds of my computer ) ?

thanks in advance 🙂
