comcast says they are providing me with downlaod speed of 250 Mbps.
I'm plugged into eithernet to modem directly and can only get 41?
do need a new port?
A new modem?
where do I get what I need?

What is your G7 ? I think it only has 10/100 NIC port. Since it is a laptop you can't change this port w/o modifying its motherboard (buy new board). Does your machine have USB 3.0 port(s) ? Please try

You will get 2 more USB 3.0 ports. You can connect to USB 2.0 port but won't get USB 3.0 speed.
