I have a HP laptop 17 that will not connect to Network and it is saying I need to install driver with an error code of 0xe0000100. The laptop was locked with a bit locker but was opened by a local IT professional. When it was returned to me it will not get past this page. I have not "start" window or control panel. Please help...

Hi @dummykdl,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Laptop 17 will not connect to the network and shows error code 0xe0000100, and after BitLocker was unlocked the system does not load the normal Windows desktop (no Start menu or Control Panel). Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Understand what the error indicates
Error 0xe0000100 usually appears when critical system or driver files are missing or corrupted.
This commonly happens after BitLocker recovery or an interrupted repair.

Check if Windows is loading in a limited state
If you see only a blank screen or a setup/repair screen, Windows is not loading the full user interface.
This means drivers and core Windows components are not initializing.

Restart and enter Windows Recovery Environment
Turn the laptop off.
Power it on and interrupt startup three times in a row to force recovery options to appear.

Run Startup Repair
From recovery options, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
This attempts to fix missing system and driver files automatically.

Check if the internal drive is detected
From recovery options, open Advanced options > Command Prompt (if available).
If the drive is not detected, Windows cannot load drivers or networking.

Attempt System Restore (if available)
From Advanced options, choose System Restore.
Select a restore point dated before the BitLocker unlock or repair work.

Reset Windows while keeping files
If repair and restore fail, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files.
This reinstalls Windows and drivers while preserving personal data.

Understand the network driver issue
Without a proper Windows desktop, network drivers cannot install or run.
The driver error is a symptom of Windows not loading correctly, not the root cause.

I hope this helps.
