To have a Wired Network, you need a Router that has Ethernet ports in the back. They usually have four such ports, while the more expensive newer ones may have more.
You then connect an Ethernet cable from the port on your laptop to a port on the Router.
Once the router sees the laptop, it will assign it an IP address -- and if you look at the bottom right of the task bar area, you will see the "globe" icon (meaning no network) change to a "display screen" icon (meaning network found).
If your laptop does not have an Ethernet port, and many of the newer ones do not, then the setup is a lot more complicated as you have to then buy a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, plug the Ethernet cable into that, and the adapter into a USB port on your laptop.
