I have a HP EliteBook 840 G5 with SIM slot.

How can I found out if my model support the use of a SIM?

Yes.

Go to the device manager.

Click to expand the network adapters device manager category.

In that section you will see an ethernet adapter (probably Intel), a wifi adapter, and if your notebook has a mobile broadband adapter (WWAN), then it will be one of these, according to the specs:

HP lt4132 LTE/HSPA+ 4G Mobile Broadband

or

Intel® XMM™ 7360 LTE-Advanced

If you don't see either of those devices listed there, then your notebook does not have mobile broadband capability.

Hi:

Your notebook also has to have the optional WWAN card along with the antennas to for the sim card to work.

If there is no WWAN card, most likely the antennas are not included inside the notebook.

Good day.

Please tell me, if there was no WWAN module on the laptop, can I buy it additionally and install it? Are there WWAN wires in laptop already or should they be purchased separately?

I purchased this for HP 850 G5. Mobile Broadband Card for HP LT4132 LTE HSPA+ 4G Module Huawei ME906S ME906S-158 845710-001 845709-001. Same card applies on HP 840 G5 as well. However, I do recommend to check for your laptop specification support on hp website and then order the specific supported model. You can buy these wwan card on online shopping stores such as aliexpress, amazon, etc. Mine just reached today! Good Luck!

Hi Pual, I have the same laptop, with a SIM card slot but W/O a WWAN modem, I was thinking of buying something like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32893320999.html and attempt installing it myself, what do you think?

But if I don't have antennas then it useless right? Or does the SIM card slot suggest otherwise?

How do I make sure?
