hello i got an old HP Compaq 6730b laptop with serial number [edit] from a friend of mine. The problem is I don't have a driver disc and after installing windows 7 I put the drivers I found on the internet plus a connection manager and from there I can see that there is bluetooth and WWAN which says no SIM card is inserted but no wifi, I want to connect with my home router but no WLAN, my question is is it built in or missing in this model?

You're very welcome.
Since that model series has a BIOS whitelist, you can only install one of the wifi adapters listed in chapter 3 of the service manual, and it must have the HP part number on it, or it will not work.

Probably the best place you can find a replacement card would be on eBay.
You probably need this part number...480985-001

Hi:
I don't know of any 6730b's that didn't come with wifi.
Are there any devices in the device manager that need drivers?
If not, someone probably either removed the wifi adapter or it is dead.
Also check the BIOS. It should report that there is a wifi adapter installed or not present.
Look in the service manual for the wifi adapter R & R procedure. It should be pretty easy to get to where it is located to check what is going on.

thanks for the reply.
I don't think the wireless card is working. I'm thinking of replacing it with a new one. The old model is intel-512an_mmw. The question is, is it compatible with the HP Compaq 6730b since I'm not sure if it's genuine?
