Hi @rjbg,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your Microsoft account isn't recognizing your HP laptop's serial number because only Microsoft-manufactured devices (like Surface, Xbox, or keyboards) are accepted for manual addition to the Devices page via serial number.

What You Can Do Instead

1. Sign in with your Microsoft account on the laptop itself

  • Go to Settings → Accounts → Your Info
  • If you're using a local account, click "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" and complete the sign-in process
  • Devices that use a Microsoft account sign-in are automatically listed in account.microsoft.com/devices.

2. If you’re already signed in and your device still doesn't appear:

  1. Switch to a local account, reboot:
    • Go to Settings → Accounts → Your info → Sign in with a local account instead
  2. Then switch back to your Microsoft account:
    • Return to Your info → Sign in with a Microsoft account. This can refresh the link and register your device properly

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
