This is the latest Broadcom Wi-Fi driver HP has for the BCM43142 Wi-Fi adapter:
Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver (Windows 10)
7.35.351.0
After you install this driver, Windows update should install 7.35.352.0, which was the last driver update Broadcom released for that model Wi-Fi adapter.

The only other suggestion I can offer would be to go to the device manager, right click on the BCM wifi adapter, select uninstall, and check the uninstall driver box.
Restart the PC and try installing the driver again.
As you can see from the release notes, the above driver I posted supports that model Wi-Fi adapter:

Thank you for the reply!
I have uninstalled the device, flushed cache, shutdown for about 10 min and rebooted, then checked to verify it had been removed from the device driver list. I then attempted to install the supplied driver and got the same error "Update.cpp 1195" has occurred and cannot continue.
As a side note, I had booted into Linux using a live disk, and it auto found and set up the wifi and it worked fine, so I know there is not a problem with the device itself. The windows issues initially, began after the last Windows update, I have also tried to back-step on the update itself, flushed the cache, shut down for about 10 min with no difference and then re-ran Win 10 update again, and still have the same issue, Broadcom does not seem to have any help available on these cards at all.
Thank you for your assistance!

Hi, Dan:
One final suggestion to try. The unfortunately I give up.
Uninstall everything again.
If you did not delete the driver folder that was created in the C:\SWSetup folder, go to the device manager, click on the Network Controller device needing the driver. That should be the name Windows gives the Wi-Fi adapter when no driver is installed.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the driver folder that was created in C:\SWSetup\sp78044.
Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver will install that way.
That will bypass the driver setup program.

Thank you again for the attempted assist, unfortunately it did not work. I have decided my fix would be to turn this laptop into my Linux laptop since there is no driver issues running Debian on it, and I bought an Asus for my Windows laptop.
Thanks again for trying, but it is an older laptop, and not worth burning any more brain cells on it.
