Last night, my internet worked fine, Got on computer this morning and no connection to internet. I clicked on the 'ball' icon on the right side of the task bar, which is usually the way I will reconnect when my connection has been lost. This time, there was no 'WiFi' button option, just bluetooth, airplane mode, etc. When I troubleshoot, the only option it gives me is to use an ethernet cable - which I don't have and have never used to get wifi in the past. What made the wifi button disappear and how can I get it back. I am desperate and no other posts have had solutions that work. Please help!

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you make any changes on the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

Keep me posted for further assistance.

I have had clients do this many times.  It is possible you accidentally disabled the wifi adapter.  Some laptops have a function key to enable / disable, some have tiny LED indicators.  Still other have a tiny switch on the side that is easily toggled accidentally.  While I doubt you went into the BIOS and disabled it, maybe check there to see if it is recognized.

One simple test is to check Windows Device Manager and look under the network/wireless section and verify is the item is there and if it is enabled.
