Hi @KeithJohnson77,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy printer is intermittently going offline on your laptop, there are several potential reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the problem.
Check Printer Connection:
- Ensure that your printer is properly connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop.
- Verify that the printer is turned on and not in sleep mode.
Restart Devices:
- Restart both your laptop and the HP Envy printer. This simple step can often resolve connectivity issues.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your HP Envy printer. Visit the HP official website to download and install the latest drivers for your specific printer model.
Printer Status:
- Check the printer display or control panel for any error messages. Resolve any issues indicated by the printer.
Firewall/Antivirus Settings:
- Check your firewall or antivirus settings on your laptop. Sometimes, these security software can block the communication between the laptop and the printer. Temporarily disable them and check if the issue persists.
Printer Queue:
- Clear the print queue on your laptop. Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause connectivity issues.
- Open the Control Panel on your laptop.
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP Envy printer and select "See what's printing."
- Cancel any pending print jobs.
IP Address Configuration:
- Ensure that both your laptop and the printer are configured to obtain an IP address automatically (if using DHCP). Alternatively, assign a static IP address to the printer.
Printer Offline Setting:
- Check if your printer has an "Offline" setting. Some printers allow you to set them to offline mode. Make sure it is set to online.
Reinstall the Printer:
- Remove the printer from your laptop and reinstall it.
- Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.
- Right-click on your printer and select "Remove device."
- Re-add the printer by clicking on "Add a printer" and following the on-screen instructions.
Check Power Saving Settings:
- Ensure that your laptop's power-saving settings are not causing the network adapter to sleep. Adjust power settings to prevent the network adapter from turning off.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
