Hi, I have a problem with my Wi-Fi. I have a TP-Link AX12 dual-band router. I use the 5GHz band and have the 2.4GHz band turned off. The strange thing is that when I connect other devices to the 5GHz network, the speed is usually fine.

But every time I connect my laptop to the same 5G network, the speed doesn't even reach half.
The problem only occurs with the laptop; the Wi-Fi works fine with all other devices. I've also tested the laptop on the main modem, and it connects well with 5G. The problem seems to be the connection between the laptop and the TP-Link router.

Hi @joerux,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To address the Wi-Fi connectivity issues you are experiencing with your laptop and TP-Link AX12 dual-band router, here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.

Update Network Drivers:

  • Check if there are any updated network drivers available for your laptop's wireless adapter on the HP Support page or through the device manager.

Change Wireless Channel:

  • Access your TP-Link router settings and try changing the wireless channel of the 5GHz band. Sometimes interference on a particular channel can cause connectivity issues. Common channels for 5GHz are 36, 40, 44, and 48.

Modify Wireless Mode Settings:

  • Check the wireless mode settings in your laptop's device manager (under the network adapter properties) and set it to a mode that matches your router’s capabilities. For example, ensure it is set to "802.11ac" if your router supports it.

Forget and Reconnect to Network:

  • On your laptop, forget the 5GHz network and reconnect to it. This can help clear any connection settings that might be causing issues.

Router Firmware Update:

  • Ensure that your TP-Link router has the latest firmware installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the TP-Link website.

Check Router Settings:

  • Verify that the router’s security settings (WPA2, WPA3, etc.) match those supported by your laptop. Ensure your laptop is compatible with the security protocols being used.

Disable Power Saving Options:

  • Go to the device manager, right-click on the wireless adapter, and choose Properties. Under the Power Management tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Check for Background Interference:

  • Ensure that there are no devices or appliances nearby that might interfere with the Wi-Fi signals, such as microwaves, cordless phones, or Bluetooth devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
