Hi @rtx2050,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're facing issues with connecting to your laptop's hotspot, particularly with a "no IP allocation" problem, it implies that devices trying to connect to the hotspot are not being assigned an IP address. This can happen due to various reasons related to the settings on your laptop or the devices trying to connect. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps that might help resolve this issue:
1. Check Hotspot Settings on Your Laptop
- Ensure your hotspot is correctly set up and is broadcasting. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot on your Windows 11 laptop. Verify that the hotspot is on and check the network name and password.
2. Network Adapter Reset
- Sometimes, resetting the network adapter can resolve connectivity issues. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset. This will reset all network adapters to their default settings. You'll need to set up your hotspot again after this.
3. Update Network Drivers
- Outdated or corrupted network drivers can cause connectivity issues. Check for driver updates by going to Device Manager > Network adapters. Right-click on your wireless adapter and select Update driver. You can also visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your specific model.
4. Check DHCP Settings
- The DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server in your laptop (acting as a hotspot) is responsible for assigning IP addresses to devices. If there's an issue with the DHCP settings, it could lead to a "no IP allocation" situation.
- Unfortunately, Windows doesn't offer extensive DHCP settings for the mobile hotspot feature directly. However, ensuring that your network adapters are correctly configured and up to date can help.
5. Firewall/Antivirus Interference
- Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software might block connections or interfere with DHCP operations. Try temporarily disabling your firewall or antivirus to see if that resolves the issue. If it does, you may need to adjust the settings of your security software to allow the hotspot feature to work correctly.
6. Use Troubleshooters
- Windows comes with various troubleshooters that can help diagnose and solve problems. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Use the Internet Connections and Network Adapter troubleshooters to find and fix issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
