HI @Andre2711,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing a slow connection issue when using your HP Pavilion 15 laptop with an external monitor and the lid closed. Here are some steps and considerations to help resolve this problem:

1. Check Power Settings

Power Plan: Ensure that your laptop is set to a high-performance power plan when connected to the external monitor. Sometimes, power-saving settings can throttle performance, including network speed.

Advanced Power Settings:

  • Open Control Panel and go to Power Options.
  • Select your current power plan and click on "Change plan settings."
  • Click on "Change advanced power settings."
  • Expand the "Wireless Adapter Settings" and ensure that both "On battery" and "Plugged in" settings are set to maximum performance.

2. Wi-Fi Connection

Signal Interference: Ensure that there is no interference between your laptop and the Wi-Fi router or access point. Other electronic devices, walls, and physical barriers can affect Wi-Fi signal strength.

Router Placement: Position your Wi-Fi router or access point closer to your laptop and external monitor setup to improve signal strength.

3. Update Network Drivers

  • Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the "Network adapters" category.
    • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select "Update driver."
    • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" to ensure you have the latest drivers installed.

4. Check External Monitor Connection

Video Cable: Ensure that the video cable connecting your laptop to the external monitor is in good condition and securely plugged into both devices.

Monitor Resolution: Lowering the external monitor's resolution temporarily can reduce the load on the graphics card, potentially improving overall system performance including network speed.

5. Software Optimization

Background Processes: Check for any background processes or applications that might be consuming network resources unnecessarily. Close or disable them temporarily to see if network speed improves.

Antivirus and Firewall: Sometimes, security software can interfere with network performance. Temporarily disable antivirus or firewall software to check if they are causing the issue.

6. Hardware Considerations

  • USB Wi-Fi Adapter: If the built-in Wi-Fi adapter continues to perform poorly, consider using a USB Wi-Fi adapter as an alternative to see if it provides better network performance

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
