Pavilion dm1-4402sa
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I'm trying to help a family member with slow wifi (72mbps) on her Pavilion dm1 with a ralink rt3290 card. I've checked in the service manual and the only wifi cards listed that are 1x2 or 2x2 are for Intel processors, not AMD. Does that mean there is no point in installing them and they will not work? The information I've seen suggests bios whitelisting would not apply on this model. What about the number of antennae - presumably there would only be one present, unless I could use the bluetooth one?

The other issue is the router which is not dual-band or ac, but it is listed as supporting 300mbps on 802.11n and does support channel bonding (which I have tried, and increases the speed shown in Windows to 150mbps,  but doesn't seem to work very well). So if I'm understanding correctly, that means it does support a dual antenna connection, yes? Therefore if it's not possible to install a x2 internal card, a USB dongle would be able to get the full speed possible through the router?

Thanks

@beachmat,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know the compatible wireless cards for your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I checked the specifications of your computer and see the below wireless cards are tested on your computer.

Broadcom HMC 802.11 b/g/n Bluetooth (BT 3.0) combo adapter (configurable only for Brazil)

Atheros AR9565 802.11bgn 1x1 WiFi + BT4.0 combo Adapter

Ralink RT3290LE 802.11bgn 1x1

I recommend you use a USB dongle to get the best speed from your router.

Hope that answers your question and you have a great day!
