Hi @might_guy
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems like your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd1000 is having trouble recognizing the USB-C to Ethernet adapter.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Adapter Compatibility
- Ensure the USB-C to Ethernet adapter is compatible with your laptop and supports Windows 11. Some adapters may require specific drivers to function properly.
2. Install Drivers
- Visit the manufacturer's website for the adapter and download the latest drivers.
- If the adapter is plug-and-play, check Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager) to see if it appears under "Network Adapters." If not, it might need manual driver installation.
3. Test the Adapter
- Connect the adapter to another device to confirm it's working. If it doesn't work on other devices, the adapter might be faulty.
4. Enable Ethernet Connection
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet and ensure the connection is enabled.
- If the Ethernet connection doesn't appear, try restarting your laptop with the adapter connected.
5. Update Network Drivers
- Open Device Manager and expand "Network Adapters."
- Right-click on your network adapter and select "Update driver."
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
6. Check Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Expand "USB settings" and ensure "USB selective suspend setting" is disabled.
7. Run Network Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select "Network Adapter" and run the troubleshooter.
8. Test with Another USB Port
- Try connecting the adapter to a different USB-C port on your laptop. Some ports may have different power or data capabilities.
