Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i recently upgraded my old laptop for my son to use at school. its originally has win7 now has win10 (64-bit), i also installed a SSD drive and another 4gig of ram to 8 total. haven't used it for a year or so, anyway my problem is the wifi keeps dropping out or has no connection, i have orded 2 new cards for it but they dont seem to be compatible as when i put them in i get a hardware error and i need to remove the card to continue. the original card is a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b|g|n WiFi adapter as in my network adapters description, i have right clicked on it and checked for updates etc but unable to fix the problem or been able to find the identical replacement card, does any know what i can replace it with so my laptop will recognize it as i think the card is the issue, the black and white antenna cables are fine and installed correctly im just having problems finding a replacement card for it. i have connected it via cable directly to the modem and done all the updates, it works fine hardwired.

Hi:

Unless your notebook is a g6-2200 or newer model, there is a BIOS whitelist which prevents the installation of any wifi adapter not listed in the service manual for your specific model series g6.

There are no dual band internal wifi adapters that will work in any g6 older than the g6-2200.

If you need faster wifi, you will have to resort to using a dual band USB wifi adapter.

I would search by the part number of the card you removed on eBay.

There should be some available there.

Hi:

The product number you posted indicates that your notebook is a HP PAVILION G6-1311AX NOTEBOOK PC.

If you want to use the internal card, you will need to replace the Atheros card with the same HP part number.

That is the part number listed in chapter 3 of the service manual.

Atheros 9485GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi and 3012 Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter    HP part # 655795-001

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

This would be the latest W10 driver that HP has for that model wifi card...

You can also try one of the other wifi cards listed in chapter 3 of the service manual but they may not work either, because those aren't the cards your notebook came with.
