Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm looking to upgrade an older HP laptop, and Right-To-Repair issues aside with the wireless card whitelist, I was able to determine that at least 1 of the cards supports 5 Ghz.

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module 631956-001

The problem I have is that I suspect the HP part # is wrong.

I've been looking for a card around the net and I see an entirely different card with the same HP Part #

Correct HP P/N, wrong Intel Model # (Intel Centrino 1030)

Correct Intel Model# Wrong HP P/N# (Intel Centrino Advanced-N Wireless 6230)

How can I be sure which Wireless card/PN# is correct so I don't get the dreaded 104 error?

I've heard reports from other users getting OEM cards that fit the exact model # that should work, but because it doesn't have the HP Part# it doesn't work.

@Bilgediver

HP only has one part #  631956-001  which is for over 200 models/products

Still doesn't answer the question, but thanks I guess.

I cross referenced with actual pictures of the actual products using the SBS # on the WLAN module itself coupled with the OEM manufact. model name on the device itself.

I put in the Part # that seems to cross over to the correct WIFI card on the Partsurfer site you posted (thanks for that by the way)

Part # 636672-001

https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=636672-001

and that actually pulls up the correct WIFI card.

So this begs the question why the Service manual was wrong all this time. But it doesn't answer my original question.

If I put in an actual  "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 802.11bgn Mini-PCIe Half Wireless" card with a part# of 636672-001 HP OEM, will my Bios actually recognize it and be ok with it? Or was the BIOS programmed with the incorrect Part # for the card in question?

Note: I was a Marine Engineering Officer for over 13 years cross referencing parts in manuals my entire career, including noting that Equipment Manufacturers aren't always the OEMs of the individual parts (Note this exact WLAN module is exactly the same as a WLAN module that fits in any PCI-e slot for any laptop), and yes service and technical manuals CAN be printed wrong. That HP has failed to fix the printing despite previous issues with dv7 (done plenty of google searches on this) really indicates lack of caring.
