It doesn't help when the Atheros driver on your notebook's support page isn't the right version!

 

That is why it is essential to know the hardware ID for a device so you can figure out why the doggone drivers don't work, when you think they should.

 

I had to go through 4 Atheros driver files before I found that one with the right hardware ID support.
