hi,

so a few days ago my daughters laptop was automatically updated by windows, I am guessing in relation to the recent vulnerabilites discovered.

in any case shortly after that her laptop would not connect to any network and right now i am having to use an ethernet cable on her laptop to get online. it claims no wireless network is available and it will not even show that she has a wireless adapter

The wireless adapter sometimes is there and then a few minutes later is gone. I have downloaded quite different realtek wireless drivers and uninstalled them. These are the other things i have done:

I ran an hp network check: it told me to connect the ethernet cable with no mention of the realtek wireless adapter

i ran a full virus scan on the laptop, it said everything was ok

i did the bios reset to default step

I have restarted the laptop numerous times..some of those times, the wireless connection appears for a moment then when i try to connect it disappears

When the realtek adapter does appear i have done the update driver step, it says i have the latest driver

i did a windows network troubleshooting here are the results:

Hello The Fossette and thanks for your reply..

as you saw in my message i have tried pretty much all the steps outlined in the document.

The only thing i have not tried is the system restore point which now i think i am left with no choice.

If that works then great!

If not any other unusual tips that others have tried and have worked would be helpful.

otherwise i have hit a wall of no return.

thanks

Hi unfortunately this did not work!

I am not sure what else i could do..Does HP have a service that could look through my laptop and diagnose os see if the problem is fixable? Also are there other recommended wireless adapters that work with this hp laptop besides realtek.

thanks

Hi @naki1,

It looks like you were interacting with @The_Fossette, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.

As I understand you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.

Please perform these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand Network adapters>then select the network drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that says delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and wireless network drivers from this link:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions through the hardwired Ethernet cable connection.
  • Please select the country and type the product# of the computer. Then follow the on-screen instructions to update the network drivers.
  • Also, follow the prescribed steps from his guided troubleshooter: http://hp.care/2tp5hbc and that should fix things for you as long as there are no hardware issues with the computer.
  •
  • Please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2sEZlcM
  • If you have followed these steps here and still having the issue, I would suggest you run a test on the Network card from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).
  • If the test passes, I would suggest you go ahead and perform a system recovery using the partition available on your PC. Doing this will wipe off everything and set the computer back to the original factory conditions. So, please remember to back up your data before initiating system recovery. If for some reason the recovery fails. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here:http://hp.care/2bygf7l

HP PCs - Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

    (1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

    (2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

    (3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

    (4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

If the test fails, this clearly indicates a possible hardware failure. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options.

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts,

mark my post as Accepted Solution.

And click on the Purple Thumbs up icon at the bottom of my comment.

hello jeet,

as a last resort i did perform the reset to factory settings option on the laptop and it appears the problem still exists. I have done all the hardware tests with the hp diagnostic tool and everything passed.

I am at wits end!!

Its a shame as the computer is only 2 years old and giving me so many problems. Is the wireless adapter replaceable? or is there another brand of wireless adapter besides realtek that works with hp?

thanks

Hi @naki1,

As I understand you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue. I see from the post that you have a question - Is the wireless adapter replaceable? or is there another brand of wireless adapter besides realtek that works with hp?

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more steps:

Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

In the meanwhile, a good workaround is to procure a wifi USB dongle and plug it to one of the USB ports. Then connect to the router with it. It is extremely cost effective and economical. You could get it for a song from a local Best Buy or Staples location or order one online at Amazon or Ebay.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
