@minersforge, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're trying to connect an iPhone 8 to a Windows 7 HP laptop and you're encountering Code 28 – Driver not found, this usually indicates that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is missing or not properly installed. Here’s a step-by-step guide to fix the issue:
✅ Step 1: Make Sure iTunes is Installed
iPhone drivers come bundled with iTunes. You must install iTunes to get the proper drivers for the iPhone.
- Download an older version of iTunes for Windows 7 (64-bit or 32-bit) from a trusted source like:
- Apple's official iTunes download page
- Avoid the Microsoft Store version, as it's not compatible with Windows 7.
- Install iTunes completely, ensuring that Apple Mobile Device Support is included.
✅ Step 2: Connect iPhone and Update Driver
- Connect your iPhone 8 to your Windows 7 laptop using a USB cable.
- Open Device Manager:
- Press Win + R, type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter.
- Look for any Unknown Device or Apple iPhone under Other devices or Portable Devices.
- Right-click it and select Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software.
- Choose the following path:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
Click Next and let it install the driver.
✅ Step 3: Restart the PC
After the driver is installed, restart your laptop. Your iPhone 8 should now be recognized properly.
⚠️ If Step 2 Fails (Still Code 28):
- Uninstall the problematic device from Device Manager and reconnect the iPhone.
- Ensure that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed (check in Control Panel > Programs).
- Temporarily disable driver signature enforcement if the system refuses to install the driver.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
